VB: East Grand Forks 2 at Hawley 3 (21-25, 22-25, 25-16, 25-23, 15-12)

Hawley fought back from dropping the first two sets to East Grand Forks Tuesday to defeat the Green Wave three sets to two in Hawley.

East Grand Forks scored the final five points of the opening set for a 25-21 victory.  In set two, the Green Wave had three kills apiece from McKaylee Fitzpatrick and Addison Kujawa to win 25-22.

Hawley stormed to a 6-1 start in the third set and won it 25-16 with four kills from Katy Vetter and three each from Annaka Johnson and Izzy Steer.  In set four, the Nuggets rallied from an early 6-2 deficit to force eleven ties on the way to a 25-23 win to force a deciding fifth set.  Steer had four kills and two blocks in set four.

Then in the fifth set, it was back and forth.  With the set tied at 11, Johnson had a kill and a block to give Hawley a two point edge.  And after an EGF point, Sella Fleming and Vetter had kills to end the match 15-12.

Johnson had 17 kills and 3.5 blocks for Hawley (11-3), with Vetter adding 15 kills, two block assists and a service ace and Steer contributing 13 kills and 3.5 blocks.

Kujava led East Grand Forks (18-6) with 13 kills and 1.5 blocks…with Alison Kovar adding seven kills and six apiece for Zoe Nelson and Ellie Marcott.

Hawley hosts Breckenridge Thursday night in a game that will be broadcast on YourLiveEvent.com.  East Grand Forks is off until next Monday, when they play at DGF.
