Enderlin vs Hillsboro-Central Valley

It was deja vu in all ways but one Tuesday as the Hillsboro-Central Valley Burros hosted the Enderlin Eagles in a ND Class B Region 1 girls softball matchup. In their first game of the season, the Burros came from a big deficit to take the win. They looked like they would do the same, but let a late lead slip away as the Eagles flew into the win column, 13-11.

Enderlin erupted at the start, scoring the first six runs of the game over the top of the 1st and 2nd innings. The Burros rallied, scoring six runs of their own off of four hits and three Eagle errors in the bottom of the 2nd. Of those six runs, two came off HCV’s first home run of the season, also a career first home run for Carsi Hatlestad. With the game tied at six, both teams added a run in the 4th to tie it at seven. The Burros took their first lead of the game, and added to it, with a run each in the 5th and 6th to make it a 9-7 advantage going into the top of the 7th. Enderlin got more than enough offense in the 7th, scoring six runs off of four hits, two HCV errors, and two walks to regain the lead, 13-9. The Burros were able to pick up two more in the bottom of the 7th, but it wasn’t enough to rally a second time.

Amethyst Billing led the Eagles with four runs, four hits, two RBIs and a walk drawn. Aspyn Schlecht also turned in a strong performance with a triple, double, two RBIs, a run scored, and a walk.  Kailee Kittelson led the Burros with a pair of hits, three stolen bases, two runs scored, and an RBI. Peyton Quam also notched a pair of runs, a triple, and a single. Renna Evanson picks up her first win in her first career start for Enderlin, throwing a complete seven innings. Megan Ensign threw seven strikeouts in relief for HCV in defeat.

Enderlin starts the season at 1-0 overall and in region play. HCV drops to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in region play. Enderlin looks to stay undefeated at Central Cass Friday. HCV will have a week to regroup before a big contest at Kindred-Richland next Tuesday, April 16th.
