Clearbrook, MN — The Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears played outstanding basketball on Tuesday night and stole a win from the Fertile-Beltrami Falcons 69-68.

Things started out with back and forth action and a few early lead exchanges before Fertile-Beltrami would take a 6-5 lead. From that point on, the Falcons would never trail during the rest of the game except for when it mattered most, in the final seconds. Fertile-Beltrami lead 36-30 at the half and even ballooned their second half lead to eight points 43-35. But Clearbrook-Gonvick never went away as they would go on a 10-2 run to tie the game 45-45. From there Fertile-Beltrami would again take control of the lead and again work it up to an eight point deficit at 62-54, but Clearbrook-Gonvick would knock down big shots late to give themselves a chance and would draw to within one point 68-67. With nine seconds left, Clearbrook-Gonvick would get the ball in the hands of Junior Guard Hassani Bruton, who used a ball screen, got downhill inside the paint, and laid the basketball in with 3.5 seconds to spare and taking a one point lead. Fertile-Beltrami would go the length of the floor and got an okay look at a game winning three point attempt from Mason Nowacki, who had three 3-pointers on the night, but his shot would come up short and Clearbrook-Gonvick would win 69-68.

With the win Clearbrook-Gonvick improves to 5-18 and will at home on Thursday versus the Bagley Flyers. Fertile-Beltrami falls to 19-4 on the year and will be on the road at the Red Lake County Rebels in Red Lake Falls on Thursday. (96.7 FM KKCQ).
