The Fosston Greyhounds couldn’t miss in the first half as they shot close to 90 percent from the field and defeated the Fertile-Beltrami Falcons 76-54 in the Section 8A semifinals in Thief River Falls. The Greyhounds shot 17 of 19 from the floor in the first half and used a 16-0 run to help them build a 43-17 lead at halftime. Darren Skala hit four 3 pointers and led Fosston with 24 points as the Greyhounds improve to 25-5 overall. Zach Theis pitched in with 22 points for Fosston as the Greyhounds defeated Fertile-Beltrami for the third time this season. Caiden Swenby had a big night for the Falcons as he scored 27 points. Preston Hanson came off the bench to add 7 points for Fertile-Beltrami as they end their season at 22-7. The Greyhounds took good care of the basketball as they committed only 6 turnovers in the game. Fosston advances to the Section 8A championship game on Friday, March 17th at 7:00 pm in Thief River Falls (96.7 FM, 106.5 FM and Your Live Event). The Greyhounds will play defending Section 8A champion East Grand Forks Sacred Heart. The Eagles advanced with a buzzer beating win over Warren-Alvarado-Oslo in their semifinal game on Wednesday night. The Greyhounds and Eagles did not play each other during the regular season.
