GF Red River 3 Thompson 1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-13)

Grand Forks Red River bounced back from losing a close opening set to defeat Thompson three sets to one Monday night in Thompson.

The Tommies won the opening set 25-23, as Brenna Martin had four of her team-high 11 kills in the set.

Then in set two, the Roughriders jumped to an 11-4 lead on their way to a 25-19 win that tied the best of five match at one set apiece.  In set three, Red River broke a 7-all tie with six straight points–three of them aces by Hannah Litzinger.  The Roughriders won the third set 25-18.

Red River controlled the fourth set, winning it 25-13.  The Roughriders (12-4) have now won five in a row and snapped Thompson’s (9-4) four game winning streak.

Litzinger had eight kills, five aces and a block for Red River, with Haley Johnson and Lizzy Kunz each adding eight kills and two blocks.  Libero Hope Gaddie had 29 digs for the Roughriders.

Brenna Martin had 11 kills, two blocks and an ace for Thompson.

Red River hosts West Fargo on Tuesday night.  Thompson is off until the weekend when the Tommies play at the Des Lacs-Burlington tournament Friday and Saturday.
