Recap

The Thompson Varsity Boys Basketball Team entered Friday night’s matchup with Hillsboro/Central Valley having lost each of its last five contests. The Tommies shook that sluggish stretch off early and often, riding a big second quarter to their first win in four weeks, 81-71 over the Burros.

After an evenly matched first quarter, the Tommies buried four triples enroute to a 30-21 second quarter advantage. Those 51 combined points made the halftime score, 47-36 in favor of Thompson. The Tommies stretched the lead to as much as 20 early in the fourth quarter. The Burros chipped away at the lead, getting it down to seven, but it was too tall of a mountain to climb, especially with Thompson sinking eight of ten free-throws in the fourth.

Drew Overby led the Tommies in the win with 26 while Jacob Brandt paced the Burros in the loss with 21. Both teams are now at 3-5 overall with the Tommies at 2-1 in Class A Region Two and Hillsboro/Central Valley at 1-2. Thompson has a quick turnaround as they host Devils Lake in an important Region Two matchup on Monday. The Burros have the opposite schedule, with a week off before hosting Oak Grove next Friday.
