Recap

It was the shot seen around the state that defined Our Redeemer’s 65-62 overtime consolation semifinal victory Friday night against Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier at the ND Division B Boys Basketball State Tournament.

It was all but a done deal for the #6 Rebels to advance to the 5th place game, as they built a twelve-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter. But an 8-0 run in the fourth helped the Knights rally to give them a chance. With less than three seconds remaining and a three-point lead, all EKM had to do was inbound the ball and run out the clock. However, Our Redeemer’s sophomore Gus Engelhard scooped up an errant lengthy Rebel inbounds pass, slung the ball three quarters of the way down the court, and watched it bounce off the front of the rim, then the back of the rim, and through the net to send the game to overtime.

It was tight throughout the overtime session, but Our Redeemers knocked in three clutch free throws in the extra session to EKM’s none, sealing the victory.

Nolan Schmidt and Wyatt Weekley co-led the Knights with 15 points each. Payten Lindbo added 14 in the win. Jacob Nitschke led the Rebels with 29. Zeke Barnick (14) and Austin Strobel (12) also reached double figures in the loss.

The Knights (19-9) square off against Sargent County for 5th place. EKM (22-6) will meet LaMoure-Litchville/Marion for 7th place. You can catch both games on yourliveevent.com.
