Thompson 3, Northern Cass 2 (28-26, 18-25, 19-25, 25-21, 15-6)

Defending State Class B volleyball champions Northern Cass and Thompson, who reached last year’s Class B semifinals, met in a classic Thursday night in Thompson with the Tommies winning in five sets.

The opening set went beyond the regular 25 points for a win…with Thompson winning 28-26.

Northern Cass took the next two sets 25-18 and 25-19 and was off to an 18-10 start in the fourth set, when the momentum suddenly switched.  Thompson’s Brenna Martin had four kills and a block as the Tommies went on a 15-3 run to take set four 25-21.

Then in set five, Thompson scored three straight points on Northern Cass errors to go up 9-4 and went on to win the set 15-6.

Martin had 21 kills with two blocks for Thompson (15-4-3) with Jordyn Tozer adding 11 kills and 1.5 blocks and Danica Gross ten kills and one block assist.

Josie Jensen had 24 kills, four blocks and three aces for Northern Cass (25-4-1), with Ellie Lucas adding 14 kills and two service aces.

Also for Northern Cass, senior setter Addy Rust passed the 1000 assist mark for her high school career.

Thompson travels to Hillsboro-Central Valley on Monday night, while Northern Cass is at Richland on Tuesday.
