Recap

Thompson claimed the second of two spots from Region Two at next week’s ND Class B State Softball Tournament, bouncing back from a defeat in the Region Two Championship to clip Carrington’s Cinderella hopes, 12-2, in the state qualifier game.

The Tommies wasted no time getting out in front, scoring six runs off of seven hits in the bottom of the first to lead 6-0. Thompson would add three more in the bottom of the second to push their lead to nine. Carrington scored their only two runs of the game in the top of the third off a two-RBI double by Katie Allmaras, scoring Maara Kutz and Kaydence VanRay. Thompson would add their final three runs in the bottom of the fourth to get to the ten-run threshold. The Cardinals had opportunities to extend the game, with runners on first and second in the top of the fifth, but with two outs on the board, Allmaras flew out to center to end the game.

Kya Hurst led the Tommie offense, going 3-4 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI off a pair of doubles. Abigail Olson also tallied three hits and two RBIs for the Tommies while Claire Kolling led the team in runs scored with three. All but one Tommie starting batter tallied at least one hit with all nine batting slots scoring a run. Allmaras and Kutz counted for four of Carrington’s five hits to lead the Cardinal offense.

Sydney Schawbe picked up the win in the circle for the Tommies, who improve to 17-8. Kutz takes the loss in the circle for the Cardinals, who close out their season at 7-9. Thompson joins May-Port-C-G at the state tournament in Jamestown next week.
