Region 2 Volleyball Tournament Championship

MayPort-CG 3, Grafton 0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-19)

For the first time since 2002, MayPort-CG is headed to the Class B State Volleyball Tournament.  The Patriots defeated Grafton in three straight sets Thursday in the Region 2 championship game in Larimore.

Grafton took an early 5-3 lead in the opening set, but then MPCG went on a 9-3 run to take the lead and then a 5-0 burst allowed the Patriots to win the set 25-14.  Maysa Larson and Danica Hanson had three kills apiece for MayPort-CG.

Set two was even at 8-all when MPCG scored six straight points to take control of the set and win it 25-15.

In set three, Rylee Satrom had four kills, a block and a block assist as the Patriots won 25-19 to win the Region 2 championship.

MPCG’s Rylee Satrom finished the match with eight kills, two solo blocks, two block assists and two aces. Danica Hanson added eight kills, two block assists and two aces and Raina Satrom had seven kills and an ace.  All three were named to the All-Region 2 team, with Rylee Satrom named Region 2 Senior Athlete of the Year.  Patriots Coach Stacy Hanson was also named Region 2 Coach of the Year.

Molly Bjorneby had nine kills and a block to lead Grafton.  The Spoilers end their season 20-11.

MayPort-CG improves to 33-3 on the year.  They’ll take a ten game winning streak to the State Class B tournament next Thursday at the Fargodome.
