VB: Sacred Heart at Fertile-Beltrami (17-25, 25-23, 28-26, 25-15)

Fertile, MN — The Sacred Heart Eagles continue their strong start to the season beating the Fertile-Beltrami Falcons 3-1 on Tuesday night.

It was a slow start for Sacred Heart in set 1 as they got down early and could never recover dropping the opener 17-25. The second set saw a significant more amount of back and forth play as there were a total of 8 lead changes. Fertile-Beltrami lead late 22-20 and Sacred Heart called a timeout at that point. It worked in Sacred Heart’s favor as they came out of it with momentum and went on a run to close it out 25-23. In the third set, Fertile-Beltrami lead by a match high 9 points, 13-4, at one point but the Eagles would go on a 16-7 run to tie set three at 20-20. From there, it would go the distance and then some, with both teams trading points and at one point service errors but once the dust settled it was Sacred Heart on top at the end of the third 28-26. That momentum didn’t exactly translate heading into the fourth as the Eagles once again found themselves behind early 10-3 but another burst of momentum and a 9-2 run would tie the set at 12-12. The Eagles offensive attack would then come alive and made it near impossible for Fertile-Beltrami to garner any momentum back as the Eagles would start a 13-3 run, win the set 25-15, and emerge victorious three sets to one to improve their record to 4-1 on the season while Fertile-Beltrami falls to 1-3.

Scared Heart will host the Badger/Greenbush-Middle River Gators on Thursday. Fertile-Beltrami is off the rest of the week and won’t see more game action until Saturday when they travel to Walker for a weekend tournament.
