Crookston, MN — The Sacred Heart Eagles won a thriller 57-56 over the Northern Freeze on Thursday night to advance to the Section Quarterfinals.

Leads were traded early on in Thursdays contest up until about the 11 minute mark when Sacred Heart took their first time out. From that point the Northern Freeze would never trail in the game until there 0.6 seconds left on the clock. Sacred Heart trailed 55-52 with just 15 seconds left. The Eagles would get, what was thought to be the final offensive possession, where sharp shooting Junior Parker Erickson would drill a 3-pointer from the right wing to tie the game. Northern Freeze raced the basketball to the other end of the floor and Isaak Anderson would go to the line after getting fouled on a baseline drive with just four seconds remaining. Anderson would hit one of two free throws and the two time defending Section Champions were now facing the reality of elimination. Sacred Heart had to go the length of the floor, inbounds went up the floor to Parker Erickson. He took the basketball right to the rim where he was fouled as time expired. Officials would put 0.6 back on the game clock and Erickson would drill both free throws to take a 57-56 lead and win the game for Sacred Heart.

The Eagles will play in the noon game on Saturday afternoon versus Fertile-Beltrami in the Section Quarterfinals at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls.
