State AA Consolation Semi #4 Pequot Lakes vs. Waseca

After trailing for a vast majority of the game, the Pequot Lakes Patriots advanced to the consolation final for the third straight season with a 51-48 win over Waseca.

The Bluejays jumped out to a 10-3 lead early on and for most of the game kept a 4-6 point advantage. Pequot Lakes tied the game at 19, but Waseca scored the final six points of the first half to take a 25-19 lead at the break.

Pequot Lakes tied the game again at 37 with 5:18 to go after an 8-1 run, but back-to-back threes put Waseca up again by six. The Patriots continued to fight, and it finally paid off. With Waseca struggling from the free throw line, Ethan Quale hit a corner three to give the Patriots their first lead at 48-46 with 30 seconds to play. Big blocked shots from Harry Kennan and key free throws helped put Pequot Lakes into the Consolation Finals.

The win is #300 for head coach Rich Spiczka, and it’s the third straight season that the Patriots will play 33 games in a season.
