Hillsboro Public Schools Select Dryburgh As Next Superintendent

The Hillsboro Public School Board has announced their selection for the district’s next superintendent. After lively discussion following the final interview, the board selected current Hillsboro Elementary Principal, Jon Dryburgh.

The board came to the decision Wednesday night after the conclusion of the interview with Lake Park Audubon High School Assistant Principal, Ben Hannasch. Following the interview, the hiring committee ranked their top choices, narrowing down the three finalists to two: Dryburgh and Park River Area High School Principal, and former Central Valley Principal, Frank Justin. Both the committee and the board were split on the remaining two candidates, leading to a pair motions. The motion to offer the position to Justin failed on a 3-2 vote while the motion to offer the position to Dryburgh succeeded on a 3-1 vote with one abstention.

School Board President, Tim Kozojed, says this was a difficult decision, considering the quality of all three finalists.

Kozojed sums up the qualities Dryburgh possessed that ultimately led to his selection.

Kozojed and the rest of the board want to reiterate that the votes against both motions were not votes against a particular finalist, but rather a vote in favor of the other candidate. At this time, Dryburgh and the district are still in the negotiation process and an official acceptance of the offer has not yet been finalized. In other action from today’s regularly scheduled board meeting, the board approved a usage request from Harvest Baptist Church starting March 10th, and set the date of the school board election for June 11th.
