Thompson 15, Hatton-Northwood 4 (6 innings)

Thompson rolled to another North Dakota Class B Region 2 baseball championship Tuesday by defeating Hatton-Northwood 15-4 in six innings at Mayville State University.

After Hatton-Northwood scored an unearned run in the first inning, Thompson responded in the bottom half of the inning with four runs.  The Tommies scored another run in the second, three more in the third, three in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the sixth to end the game on the ten run rule.  William Welke’s two run homer in the sixth put the exclamation point on the win.

Brody Gibson went 2 for 2 with two walks, 2 rbi and 3 runs scored.  He was also the winning pitcher, going 6 innings, allowing 4 hits, 4 runs (2 earned), with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.

The Tommies’ Drew Overby was 1 for 3 with 3 rbi, while Thomas Schumacher, Braden Wolfgram, Welke and Drew Odenbach each drove in two runs.

Derek Carpenter drove in 4 runs for Hatton-Northwood with a sacrifice fly and Ander Thorsgard went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored.  Aiden Johnson took the loss for the Thunder (9-12), pitching 2/3 of an inning, allowing 5 hits and 4 runs with one strikeout.

Thompson (23-1) will now go for their third consecutive State Class B baseball title next week at the State Tournament in Jamestown.
