Man Shot By Crookston Police Identified

Here’s an update to a story R&J News has been following.  The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has identified the man shot to death by Crookston Police last Friday.  35-year-old Andrew Scott Dale was holding a hatchet when he was approached by law enforcement on East 7th Street in the early morning hours of May 16.  Crookston Police say they used less lethal force to subdue Dale, but when he wouldn’t stop, the officers shot him.  Dale died from multiple gunshot wounds.  

The BCA has released the names of the officers involved in the shooting.  Crookston Police Officer Nick Fladland fired his department handgun.  Crookston Police Officer Alex Rudnik used his taser.  And Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy Matt Benge fired 40 millimeter foam less lethal rounds. Officer Fladland is on critical incident leave.
