American Crystal Sugar Fined By MPCA

American Crystal Sugar in Moorhead has been fined $12,315 by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency for failing emissions performance stack tests on two boilers in the fall of 2023. Facility reports turned in by the company to the MPCA showed several emission deviations on its vertical lime kiln, due to using too much fuel.  Besides paying the fine, American Crystal Sugar also took corrective actions including retesting and passing stack tests and submitting a plan to ensure the vertical lime kiln will operate within permitted limits.
