Danette Gwin Retiring From Norman County Sheriff’s Office After Nearly 50 Years
Ada, MN — For nearly the last five decades, a familiar voice has been on the other end of dispatch for the Norman County Sheriff’s Office, but that very recognizable voice will soon be calling it a career. The Norman County Sheriff’s Office is hosting an open house today (Wednesday) from 2-4pm to honor the 49 year career of Dispatcher Danette Gwin. Gwin began her career with the county in high school working part-time for the Veteran’s Service Office in 1973 and soon transitioned over to the Sheriff’s Office as the new law enforcement center was being built.
From a technology perspective, Gwin says a lot has changed in the dispatch center during the last half century. While there are a lot more screens and buttons, acquiring and processing data is much, much easier.
As to what kept Danette behind the desk and behind the mic at the Norman County Sheriff’s Office all these years, she says the relationships were one thing, but also through good and bad times every day was different and unique.
Gwin also stated that she’s never been much of a morning person, so sleeping in will be her first priority once she retires.
The open house to celebrate the career of Danette Gwin will be held this Wednesday, June 15th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm in the meeting room next to the Sheriff’s Office.
