Weird and Wacky Wednesday: “Florida Woman Sues Velveeta over ‘misleading’ Shells and Cheese”

A Florida woman has filed a pretty cheesy lawsuit against Velveeta, claiming that the brand lies on packages of its microwavable Shells & Cheese cups by suggesting it’s ready in only three-and-a-half minutes. Amanda Ramirez says she purchased the product because it says, “ready in three-and-half minutes,” but says it actually takes more time than that. She argues that while it needs that much time in the microwave, it doesn’t factor in the amount of time it takes to open the package and stir in the cheese. She doesn’t say how long it actually takes her to make one of the cups, but she says Velveeta — which is owned by Kraft Foods — is violating state and federal laws against deceptive and unfair trade practices, fraud, false and misleading advertising. She’s seeking $5 million in damages.
