Ada Mayor Pitches Council Pay Increase During Monthly Meeting

Ada, MN — The Ada City Council held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday at Council Chambers. At the meeting, Ada Mayor John Hintz give his pitch to the council on a way to increase council pay and committee attendance. Councilors currently get paid $250 a month with the last pay increase dating back to 2001. This proposal would not increase the monthly pay, but instead offer a $1200 a year bonus for councilmembers who attend 75% of committee meetings, according to Mayor Hintz.

While voting for a pay raise can be a taboo subject and hurt a reelection campaign, Hintz notes that the four councilmembers up for reelection have stated they are not running again, so this increase would only benefit the next council.

Also at this week’s meeting, Administrator Ashley Larson was happy to report they found a well-qualified candidate for their part time officer position and the council approved offering the position to Gunnar Nelson.

And Mayor Hintz reminds residents that Spring Clean-Up begins this week and encourages them to take advantage of the opportunity.

The Ada City Council also approved selling Lot 1 of the Rage Addition to Heather Stene (steen) and approved a $300 donation to the Ada Summer Children’s Theatre.
