Sophomore quarterback Jake Starcevic rushed for three touchdowns and passed for two more as Thompson opened 11B Region 2 play Friday with a 54-0 victory over Grafton in Thompson.

Starcevic gave the Tommies their first bit of momentum with a pass interception on the third play of the game.  Then three plays later, Starcevic scored on a nine yard run to give Thompson a 6-0 lead.

Starcevic would score on runs of one and nine yards on the Tommies’ next two possessions for a 21-0 lead.  And on their next possession, Starcevic connected with senior running back Reece Berberich on a 14 yard pass play to put Thompson ahead 28-0 after one quarter.

There was no further scoring until the third quarter, when Starcevic connected with Gavin Krogstad on a five yard pass to make it 35-0 in favor of the Tommies.  That completed a 13 play, 68 yard drive that took 6:15.

Berberich scored his second touchdown of the game on a one yard run late in the third frame to make the score 42-0.  Skyler Allard and Maxx Albin would score fourth quarter touchdowns to make the final score 54-0.

Thompson’s defense forced two turnovers–both interceptions–and held Grafton to 63 yards total offense, with one yard rushing on 19 carries.  Spoiler quarterbacks completed six of 19 passes for 62 yards with two interceptions.

Starcevic rushed for 129 yards on 17 carries and completed 11 of 17 passes for 117 yards.  In all, the Tommies totaled 392 yards in total offense.

Grafton (0-1) plays Bottineau next week, while Thompson travels to Park River.
