Red Lake County advanced to the third place game in the Northwest Region Northern Substate American Legion baseball tournament Sunday with an 8-1 victory over Crookston Sunday in Ada.  The loss eliminated Crookston from the tournament.

Red Lake County Post 22 managed only 6 hits in the game, but took advantage of 2 errors, 4 walks, 2 passed balls and 5 wild pitches to gain the victory.

Ben Gullingsrud and Kegan Schmitz combined to hold Crookston to 3 hits.  Gullingsrud got the victory, throwing 5 1/3 innings, allowing 2 hits, no runs, one walk and 7 strikeouts.

Matt Contreras took the loss for Crookston.  In 4 2/3 innings, he allowed 5 hits, 8 runs (2 earned), 4 walks, 5 wild pitches and 7 strikeouts.  Crookston’s only run came in the seventh inning on an rbi single by Isiah Donarski.

Red Lake County’s Schmitz was the only Post 22 hitter with more than one hit (2/3, 2 runs scored, one rbi).  Riley Broden had 2 rbi.

Red Lake County went on to defeat Roseau 10-3 in the third place game.
