Region 1 Softball Tournament Championship – Central Cass vs Kindred-Richland

Hankinson, ND – Kindred-Richland defended their Region 1 Softball Tournament championship with a 6-5 win in 8-innings over Central Cass on Wednesday night.

Leah Rolland opened the game with a solo home run to center field and two batters later Mackenzie Fuxa added another solo home run in the top of the first inning for Kindred.

With the Vikings leading to 2-0 in the top of the fifth inning, Fuxa hit another solo homer to left field giving the Vikings a 3-0 lead.

Central Cass tied the game at 3 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Aspyn Prien hit a two-run homer and Natalie Fontaine tied the game as Kindred-Richland was called for runners interference later in the inning at third base.

Kindred-Richland scored 3 runs in the top of the 8th inning thanks to two Central Cass errors and sacrifice flys from Cora Johnson and Elyanna Schmitz.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Madeline Steeg hit a two-run homer with 2 outs to trim the deficit to 6-5. Danica Rath recorded the final out of the contest, striking out Paige Wixo on the following at bat.

Kindred-Richland and Central Cass both head to the State Class B Softball Tournament on Thursday, May 30 – Saturday, June 1 in Jamestown.
