Carson Beaudin and Aiden Johnson combined on a three-hit shutout as Hatton-Northwood defeated Larimore 7-0 Monday in an elimination game at the North Dakota Class B Region 2 baseball tournament at Mayville State University.

The Thunder opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning…with one coming on a double steal and the other on a Kaleb Trostad single.  A Drew Iverson sacrifice fly in the third boosted the lead to 3-0.

Hatton-Northwood added two more runs in the fourth inning on Beaudin’s two run single to make it 5-0. Then Derek Carpenter led off the sixth inning with a long home run to left center, and a Keegan Schroeder sacrifice fly made it 7-0.

Beaudin had three hits with two rbi for Hatton-Northwood, while Carpenter, Schroeder and Trostad each had two hits and an rbi.

Beaudin pitched the first six innings, allowing three hits, two walks, two hit batters with eight strikeouts.  Johnson pitched a scoreless seventh inning as the Thunder (8-11) advance to Tuesday’s elimination game with the winner advancing to the Region championship later on Tuesday.

Baron Burns took the loss for Larimore (2-11), going 4 1/3 innings, allowing 7 hits, five runs, six walks plus a strikeout.  Avery Gatton pitched the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and two runs with two strikeouts.
