BAXTER, Minn. â€“The Minnesota Department of Transportation will close and detour Green Gables Road/Crow Wing County Road 126 at Highway 371 east of Gull Lake, Brainerd, to reconstruct the entrance and replace an underground pipe.

The road will close between Highway 371 and Joannes Drive NW on Monday, Sept. 26 and reopen by Friday, Oct. 7. County Road 126 (Green Gables Road) will detour along Hartley Lake Road and Gull Lake Dam Road (County Road 125) back to Highway 371.

Access to the Brainerd International Raceway (BIR) at Highway 371/Birchdale Road will also be closed as crews reconstruct the entrance through early October; use Landmark Drive for access.

When complete in June 2023, the two-mile Highway 371 project will improve safety and access along this busy recreational area of Highway 371 by installing three reduced conflict intersections (RCI), also known as a j turns, at Gull Lake Dam Road (County Road 125), Birchdale Road/BIR main entrance and Green Gables Road (County Road 126). The project will also install frontage roads along the east and west side of Highway 371.

Drivers who navigate RCIs always make a right turn, followed by a U-turn. This reduces potential conflict points and improves safety. These intersections decrease fatalities and injuries caused by broadside crashes on four-lane divided highways. For more information on RCIs or to download a Green Gables Road detour map, visit the Highway 371 web page at www.mndot.gov/d3/projects/rci/h371/.

In November 2022, work operations will suspend over winter, and in June 2023, crews will return to complete any remaining work, mainly frontage road construction.
