Nisswa Fire Dept. puts out Fish Houses on Roy Lake

NISSWA — Two fish houses were destroyed in a fire Saturday while on the ice at Roy Lake in Crow Wing County. The fire was reported around 1:45pm, and the Nisswa Fire Department responded. According to Nisswa Fire Chief Shawn Bailey, when fire crews arrived they found one house engulfed in flames and an adjacent house on fire.

Crews brought a tracked all-terrain vehicle known as a rescue buggy to reach the fish houses. Responders drilled a hole and sucked water out of the lake with the buggy to extinguish the fires. A bucket line was also created to control the blaze.

Bystanders helped pull two additional fish houses out of the way before the fire could spread further. The battery box inside one of the fish houses is believed to have been the cause of the fire.
