Twin Valley, MN — During his recent conversation on the KRJB Kaleidoscope Program, Ada Police Chief Jody Bueng provided some clarification regarding transporting of firearms in a motor vehicle, specifically long rifles. In the state of Minnesota, all rifles must be unloaded and cased or in a trunk of a vehicle. However, he notes that there are some exceptions, such as shooting ranges or to hunting grounds.

Chief Bueng adds that those transport laws don’t apply to all counties and communities, so some research may be required if you are transporting an uncased firearm, even for legal reasons.

However the safest and best way to transport a firearm is unloaded, cased, and in the trunk or back of vehicle. It also best to keep it out of sight from the public and your vehicle locked to avoid theft as well.
