(Minnesota) — Break out that extra gear and bring mom to your favorite spot with ‘Take a Mom Fishing’ Weekend Saturday, May 7th to Sunday, May 8th.

During this special weekend, moms who live in Minnesota can fish without purchasing a license.

This weekend was established by the State Legislature in 1988 to coincide with Mother’s Day and usually falls on the same weekend of the fishing opener. This year is not the case.

Take a Mom Fishing Weekend is open to anglers and moms for many species like crappie, sunfish, catfish, or native fish like buffalo, sucker, bullhead, or sheepshead.

Walleye and northern pike season will open the following weekend on Saturday, May 14th.

More information on fishing regulations can be found on the DNR’s website.
