Wheat Harvest Behind Schedule, Especially in Northern RRV
Minnesota — Wheat harvest in the Red River Valley is 2-3 weeks behind schedule and growers, especially those in the northern valley, may still be a few weeks out. Rhonda Larson, Chairperson of the US Wheat Associates Board of Directors, provided an update during this week’s Farm and Field Show. She notes that its possible the wheat harvest may conflict with the sugar beet prehaul for some growers.
Along with conflicting with other harvests, Larson noted that the time available each day to harvest gets less and less the later we get into the year.
According to the USDA Crop Progress, 12% of Minnesota wheat was reported harvested as of August 14th. The 5-year average is 42% harvested for the same date, while last year at this time the spring wheat was 90% harvested in Minnesota. 76% of the crop is rated in good condition.
