Winter safety reminders such as using caution while snowmobiling and preventing home fires during the heating season were a couple of the topics Clearwater County Sheriff Darin Halverson spoke about on his monthly Food For Thought report on KKCQ radio.

More snowmobilers are hitting the trails and taking advantage of the snow conditions this year while enjoying a popular winter pastime. Clearwater County Sheriff Darin Halverson urges snowmobilers to use caution especially when riding in the ditches or on the lakes.


Sheriff Halverson stated he’s been getting several questions this year about snowmobile safety certificate requirements.

This is the time of year when furnaces are working overtime. Sheriff Halverson offers some tips for homeowners to keep an eye on to prevent fires and keep their heating sources working properly during the heating season.

Carbon monoxide poisoning is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America according to the Centers for Disease Control. A CO alarm should be installed on each level of the home and should be placed near all sleeping areas.
