USPS Office of the Inspector General launching investigation into Minnesota and North Dakota postal system
The United States Postal Service’s Office of the Inspector General announced on Wednesday that they will be launching an investigation into the Minnesota-North Dakota postal district. This investigation comes after an audit of the St. Paul Processing and Distribution center and delivery units in New Brighton, Eagan and Apple Valley, Minnesota found approximately 140,000 packages of delayed mail, and inadequate resources for postal workers and mail security issues.
The postal service has been garnering a lot of focus from Minnesota lawmakers over the past year, and this attention reached an all time high last week when Minnesota US Congress members Angie Craig and Pete Stauber led a bipartisan delegation calling for an investigation into Minnesota-North Dakota USPS district.
Craig has been leading the call for changes to be made for over a year saying “For over a year, I’ve been sounding the alarm on unacceptable service from USPS, and for over a year, USPS leadership has given my office the runaround, saying there’s nothing wrong, in spite of the thousands of messages I’ve received from Minnesotans who aren’t getting their mail.” in a press release.
The USPS Office of the Inspector General says they will issue another report summarizing the results of the district audit with specific recommendations for management to address at a later date.
