MN Congressional Republicans Oppose State Bill Making Minnesota A Sanctuary State
Republicans in Minnesota’s Congressional delegation aren’t happy with the idea that the North Star State becomes a sanctuary state. This week, DFL lawmakers in St. Paul pushed for passage of The North STAR Act, which would protect rights of illegal immigrants by prohibiting local law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration agents. The bill would also ban state government officials from enforcing civil immigration laws. Minnesota US House Republicans Michelle Fischbach, Tom Emmer, Pete Stauber and Brad Finstad issued a statement opposing the North STAR Act. Emmer, the House Majority Whip, calls it “(an) outrageous bill (that) puts every Minnesotan in danger and must not become law.” Fischbach, Minnesota’s 7th District Representative, said places that become sanctuary cities “become hotbeds of dangerous crime and depleted local health and safety resources.” Stauber added that “Minnesotans don’t want to be living in a so-called sanctuary state. They want border security.”
