Homeless Man Held On $1 Million Bond
GRAND FORKS, ND—(From Valley News Live) Bail has been set at $1,000,000 for a homeless man who is accused of shooting at Grand Forks Police officers. 30-year-old Jeffrey Simpson, Jr. was charged Monday in connection with a shooting in the early morning hours of last Friday, March 22. According to court documents, Police removed Simpson’s ex-girlfriend and son from their home on March 21 and took them to a shelter Shortly after that, Simpson allegedly broke into her home. Then on the 22nd, as law enforcement was trying to arrest Simpson for probable cause at a residence on Primrose Court, two unmarked vehicles boxed him in. Simpson then allegedly got out of his vehicle and opened fire on the officers, forcing them to return fire. No one was hit by the gunfire. Simpson then tried to flee on foot, but gave up and was arrested. He’s facing 15 charges: four counts of attempted murder, two counts of domestic violence, two counts of terrorizing with a dangerous weapon, burglary, three counts of reckless endangerment, felonious restraint, criminal mischief and possessing methamphetamine. Simpson was also ordered to not possess any firearms and turn over any firearms he does have. His next court date is scheduled for May 6.
