High school athletes and teams representing schools from across the state scheduled to participate at 2024 Minnesota State High School Clay Target League Clay Target Championships in June. The League’s clay target sports program is one of the most popular high school activities in the state, having more participants than both Boy’s and Girl’s high school hockey combined, according to the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL.)

The MNSHSCTL Trap Shooting Championships will be held at the Alexandria Shooting Park June 10th-18th. The event will feature 8,576 athletes from 338 high school teams. With over 8,500 participants, the Trap Shooting Championship is the largest clay target shooting competition in the world!

11,898 student athletes representing 427 high school teams across the state participated in the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League (MNSHSCTL) this spring. The MNSHSCTL is a part of the USA Clay Target League, which offers high school and college programs in 35 states.

Of those 427 high school teams, 2 of them will be our very own International Falls and Littlefork-Big Falls teams who will be competing in the state meet. The Broncos Trap team will be competing in the Class 1A bracket as a member of Conference 6, and they’ll compete on Monday, June 10th at 12pm in Trap 3B. The Vikings Trap Team will compete in the Class 3A as part of Conference 2 with their competition on Wednesday, June 12th at 11:30pm in Trap 4B.

About the USA Clay Target League

With over 51,000 participating athletes in the 2023-2024 school year, the non-profit USA Clay Target League is the largest youth clay target shooting sport program in the world. The League offers trap, skeet, sporting clays, and 5-stand leagues to secondary and post-secondary schools across the country.

The League is the only 100% school-approved clay target shooting sport program in America and the League’s co-ed and adaptive nature are key attractions to schools nationwide. The League is fully Title IX compliant with both male and female athletes competing on the same team. Additionally, it’s an ‘adaptive’ sport, which allows students with physical disabilities to take part.

The League’s priorities are safety, fun, and marksmanship – in that order.

The League is the safest sport in school, with not one reported injury since the inception of the League in 2001. Each athlete must complete firearm safety certification before participation.
