Last night, on the Rainy River campus the Voyageurs Men’s Basketball team was on the court for their preseason Scrimmage against the Norse of Mesabi Range. In the Scrimmage, the Voyageurs would pull off a huge comeback after falling by as much as 16 points. They would finish the comeback by winning 82-81. I got to speak with some players on the Voyageurs squad.

The three were asked what were their biggest takeaways following the big comeback win.

At halftime, what was talked about by Coach Collins in the locker room when trailing 34-30?

The Voyageurs were asked about their personal adjustments entering that second half.

When they enter the regular season, what are these uys planning to bring to the court?

So what were some of the best moments from the scrimmage?

And did it help having the home crowd there as the Baseball and Volleyball teams had both shown up for support.

The three also had some fun shoutouts.

Then I talked to Coach Collins of the Voyageurs and got his thoughts on the scrimmage.

He was then asked about the team having a slow start before coming back from being down 16.

Coach Collins was asked about the adjustments made at halftime.

So the players were starting to find their rhythm once more?

Next, the Voyageurs will have a Red and Black inter-squad scrimmage on the 26th, and Coach Collins was asked if the starting lineup will be finalized by that point.

He also talked about the first experience of having a home crowd.

This win was certainly a big one for the team despite being a scrimmage.

There was also credit given to the team for keeping positivity in the face of adversity.

He also talks about his guys finding that rhythm and being able to set up the gameplan.

As well as the big turnovers that his players were making in the scrimmage.

Now what is the focus in these three weeks leading up to the first game of the season?

Each game is seen as a learning opportunity that also assists Coach Collins in making the starting lineup.

Will there also be focus on conditioning or on player’s health?

Coach Collins then shares his expectations from players.

He then finishes the interview with an invitation to the fans.

Their first game of the new season will be November 8th in Mesabi.
