Preview
Bryar Nordby rushed for 111 yards and three touchdowns and had a big first half interception as Pequot Lakes captured their first Section 7AAA championship with a 35-16 win over Two Harbors.
The top-seeded Patriots found themselves in an early 8-0 hole after the first play from scrimmage resulted in a safety for Two Harbors and the Agates scored on the ensuing drive. Even though Two Harbors had a massive advantage in field position through most of the first half, the defense held tight with the Nordby interception and a Dane Mudgett forced fumble and recovery.
Pequot Lakes scored 28 unanswered points carrying into the 4th quarter, with each team finding the endzone once more in the final frame.
The Patriots are 10-0 and have reached the state football tournament for the third time, the first since 2017, with this year being the first as representing section 7.
John Paul Elsenpeter had 119 yards on the ground and Michael Oseland was 3/5 passing for 99 yards and two touchdowns, one to Nordby and the other a 66-yarder to Kamrin Hulke for the Patriots first score.
Two Harbors finishes the year 8-2 with their only two losses coming at the hands of the Patriots.
