RRCC Men’s Basketball Prepares to Begin a New Era
On the Rainy River campus, some more basketball teams prepare to start their own season, and the Men’s and Women’s teams get ready for tomorrow’s contests at the Mesabi Range campus. I spoke with Tyheim William and Jaymar Prevail of the Men’s team following their practice last night.
For Tyheim, what made him decide to return for his sophomore season?
And what made Jaymar choose to commit to the Voyageurs?
The two were then asked what they intend to bring to the team this season.
Tyheim was then asked if that big-body nature is his biggest strength on the court.
Next Jaymar was asked about his greatest strength in basketball.
Finally, the players were asked what they are expecting for tomorrow’s contests.
What are some teams that they are looking out for, besides Mesabi Range following their close scrimmage win.
Following the momentum of last season, making it to the National tournament but being eliminated. What will be the key to getting over that bump, and even winning the National Tournament?
Tyheim was then asked about a team they previously played who could pose a challenge.
The two then talked about team bonding and how they’ve been building those relationships.
With that competitive nature, they were asked how they intend on applying that to the basketball court.
And being from the South, how are they adjusting to the Minnesota cold?
And of course they had some shoutouts.
Then I caught up with Coach Collins for a quick preview on the team and how they’re looking.
He was also asked the primary focus for this week.
And then we talked about the starting lineup and if it has been solidified.
In preparation for Sisseton on Friday, Coach Collins was asked if the team has been able to watch film on their first opponent.
He was then asked if there were any surprises from his roster.
We then talked to him about the chemistry the guys seem to have already developed, and if that’s affected by the confidence these players hold.
As well as which Conference games he was looking out for this season.
What are the seasonal goals that he’s made for the team? Is Coach Collins immediately shooting for the Nationals tournament? Or building up to that mark?
Then, he was asked about the bench and if there’s any players who will likely be explosive coming into games.
Finally, he had some final words before finishing the interview.
The Voyageurs Men’s season tips off to start at 3pm on the Mesabi Range Campus where they’ll first play against Sisseton.
