Man facing multiple felonies for firing warning shots at deer hunters in rural Gary
A Minnesota man is facing multiple felonies after he allegedly fired warning shots at a group of hunters in rural Norman County.
Court documents say on Sunday, November 10 a Norman County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to rural Gary due to reports of shots fired and threats. On arrival the deputy made contact with a pair of hunters who said they were out deer hunting on their land when a man they identified as Kevin Jon Yungen fired three gunshots in rapid succession from his farmstead that neighbors the hunter’s land.
Shortly after the shots, the victims said they heard a voice from an amplifying device say, “those are the warning shots, next shots will be in your direction, this is your opportunity to get the (expletive) out of here.” The victims left their property and called to report the incident.
Yungen was later interviewed by law enforcement and admitted to firing the shots, but denied that he made any threats. He also stated that his intentions were merely to scare deer out of his yard.
Yungen is facing five felony charges which include two counts of Threats of Violence, two counts of Assault in the Second Degree with a Dangerous Weapon, and one count of Intentional Discharge of Firearm.
Yungen made his first appearance in Norman County Court on Tuesday in front of the Honorable Seamus P. Duffy.
