Leiting vs Fertile Update

CROOKSTON, MN—Here’s an update to a story R&J News has been following.  Trial dates have been set for the case of Angie Leiting versus the City of Fertile, Mayor Dan Wilkens and the Fair Meadow Nursing Home.  Polk County Judge Anne Rasmusson has ordered a pre-trial hearing for October 17, with a jury trial to begin October 27 in Crookston and scheduled to run through the 31st.  Judge Rasmusson has also ordered both parties to engage in formal mediation at least once before May 16.

Leiting is suing the City of Fertile, Mayor Wilkens and Fair Meadow Nursing Home over her forced resignation as nursing home administrator in June 2023.  It’s alleged Leiting’s status was discussed by Wilkens and the Fertile City Council in closed meetings in 2023; meetings that according to Minnesota law should not have been closed.
