Mahnomen/Waubun at Bagley

Bagley, MN — The Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbirds won their second game in a row on Thursday night after beating the Bagley Flyers 94-66.

The game was deadlocked at a 40-40 tie at halftime but locker room adjustments made by Mahnomen/Waubun was the key cog as to how they were able to run away with it in the second half. The Thunderbirds, who were in a full court press defensively in the first half, dropped back into their half court defense during the second half and made life tough for the Bagley Flyers offense. At the 10:21 mark while leading 59-53, Thunderbirds Coach John Clark Jr. took a time out and from that point, Mahnomen/Waubun outscored Bagley 35-13 the rest of the game. And would eventually put the finishing touches on a 94-66 win.

With the victory, Mahnomen/Waubun has won two games in a row improving to 3-6 on the season. The Thunderbirds face a gauntlet of a schedule next week playing five games in six days, starting with a rematch of last years East Sub-Section Championship at the Red Lake Warriors. For Bagley, they fall to 5-8 on the season and will play at Warroad on Tuesday next week.
