House Republicans introduce multiple Public Safety Proposals
Republicans in the Minnesota House of Representatives held a press conference on Wednesday afternoon to highlight a number of their proposals to address crime across the state. Rep. Paul Novotny of the Public Safety and Criminal Justice Reform Finance and Policy Committee says Minnesota has been too “soft on crime”, and he highlights the three pillars their proposals are built on.
Rep. Novotny breaks down some of the public safety proposals that range from enhanced penalties for assault of a law enforcement officer, and a new mandatory minimum for those found guilty of first degree sex trafficking.
Rep. Novotny made it clear that these proposals are about putting victims of crime first, and making it so law enforcement can properly do their job.
House Democrats have continued to skip the session because a powersharing agreement with House Republicans has not been reached. The current power balance in the House of Representatives is a slim 67-66 GOP majority.
