The Minnesota Senate Committee on Health and Human Services heard testimony on a bill yesterday, that is looking to prohibit health care providers and provider-based clinics from charging you facility fees. Bill lead author Senator Clare Oumou Verbeten (DFL-St Paul) explains what facility fees are.

Senator Oumou Verbeten also gave an overview of her bill, and how it would work.

The committee also heard testimony from Melissa Finnegan who shared an experience she had with a healthcare provider that made her reach out to her legislator to pursue this bill.

The bill is supported by the Minnesota Nursing Association, and Minnesota Farmer’s Union. The Minnesota Hospital Association opposes the bill. The Committee on Health and Human Services voted to advance the bill, and refer it to the Senate Committee on Judiciary.
