Parents encouraged to talk to their children about firearms
Every year you hear cases of children finding a loaded firearm, and an accident occurring. In order to avoid accidents like this the Norman County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging parents to have conversations with their children on what to do if they find a firearm. Norman County Sheriff’s Deputy, and gun safety instructor Matt Nikle tells us what parents can do to better educate their children on gun safety.
Having a properly stored gun is also a way that parents can keep their weapons out of their children’s hands, and officer Nikle explains how a gun should be stored.
Nikle says he often receives questions on how a person can properly store a firearm, but still have access to it for defense. He explains how, and he also reminds people about proper storage laws in Minnesota.
People with questions about gun safety and storage can talk to their local law enforcement office for educational materials.
