Bagley High School rocks this weekend with “Schoolhouse Rock, Live!”
BAGLEY, MN – The Bagley High School Drama students are ready to rock this weekend as they put on their spring musical show, “Schoolhouse Rock, Live!”, this Friday and Saturday, April 14th and 15th at 7:00 PM and on Sunday, April 16th at 2:00 PM at the Bagley High School Auditorium. This year, the cast is led by 18 senior high students, 11 junior high students, and nine elementary students for a fun and energetic show.
The show is based on the educational cartoon from the late 70’s and 80’s, “Schoolhouse Rock” written George Newall and Tom Yohe. A young teacher, Tom, is nervous about his very first day of teaching school. As he thinks about his day, the creative thoughts in his head emerge as characters around him, reminding him that he has all the knowledge, creativity, and preparation to teach grammar, mathematics, science, and history, all through musical numbers like “Conjunction Junction,” “Three is a Magic Number,” “Unpack Your Adjectives,” and “Interjections!”
The students worked with director Marilyn Hood and set construction expert, Mike Malterud, to create a brightly-colored, multi-level set for the performance. With giant pencils, crayons, books, television screen and a blackboard, the scene displays aspects of a classroom.
Josh Gunderson is the assistant musical director, and Andrea Neeland accompanies the show with drummer Andy Anderson to keep the beat. The play adaptation is by Scott Ferguson, George Keating, and Kyle Halland with music and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, Bob Dorough, Dave Frishberg, and Kathy Mandry. It is licensed through Music Theater International, LLC.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. They can be purchased at the door 30 minutes prior to each performance.
