Goodridge/Grygla at Clearbrook-Gonvick

Clearbrook, MN — The Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears escaped with a 62-59 win over the Goodrdige/Grygla Chargers in boys basketball on Friday night.

Clearbrook-Gonvick started the game slow on the offensive end of the floor trailing early 17-9. The Chargers held the advantage for nearly the entirety of the first half until the Bears took the lead 25-24 with just a few minutes to play. Goodridge/Grygla would hit a basket snatching the lead right back 26-25. And then Clearbrook-Gonvick’s Grant Engen hit a right wing 3-pointer to take the two point lead back 28-26. Goodridge/Grygla’s Owen Larson, right on cue rolled in a layup to tie the game with three seconds left, but Grant Engen for Clearbrook-Gonvick struck again, this time banking in a half court shot as time expired to give the Bears a 31-28 lead.

In the second half, the Bears controlled the scoreboard. Pushing their lead to nine points early 43-34. Goodridge/Grygla had to scratch and claw to stay in the game and eventually get within striking distance 58-52 but the comeback effort would come up short and Clearbrook-Gonvick would win 62-59.

With the win, Clearbrook-Gonvick has won four games in a row improving to 8-1 overall. The Bears will be at BGMR next Friday. For Goodridge/Grygla, Friday night’s loss was their fourth loss in a row dropping them to 3-7 on the season. The Chargers will host Roseau on Monday.
