The Ada-Borup-West Cougars attacked the basket on offense and the fast start coupled with a 23-0 run to end the first half helped propel them to a 79-38 victory over the Mahnomen-Waubun Thunderbirds. Mahnomen-Waubun would have a 7-0 run to cut an early defecit to five points before they went scoreless for over seven minutes to end the half while the Cougars continued to attack with the lead swelling to 46-18 at halftime. The Thunderbirds were unable to cut the lead in the second half as they dropped their season opener and start the year at 0-1. Meanwhile the Cougars rebounded from a loss earlier in the week and earn their first win to even the record at 1-1.
