Fosston, MN — Fosston Police Chief Dustin Manecke is reaching out to parents to provide some safety tips when it comes to their kids using mobile and personal devices such as cell phones, tablets, and computers.  Manecke recommends parents to have a conversation and plan on how they want their children to utilize technology, as its not feasible to keep them away from it in this day and age, but make sure to set boundaries and limit screen time. He adds that you should take an interest in what their kids are doing online and remind them never to give out any personal information as you never who is actually on the other end of that text or chat conversation.

Parents should also be aware of Apps their kids are using on their devices. Chief Manecke says trends are always changing and it’s important to do some research as to whether or not those apps are safe.

And lastly parents should talk to their children about the consequences of cyberbullying.  Cyberbullying is a crime. Emphasize that your child should not respond to cyberbullying. Instead, they should tell you about it as soon as possible.
