Hawley Fire Update

HAWLEY, MN—Here’s an update to a story R&J News has been following: Wednesday’s fire at the Taracon Precast Plant in Hawley has been ruled accidental.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s office and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s office, the investigation determined that a worker was cutting rebar with a handheld power cutter, which caused the sparks to catch other material on fire.

Law enforcement says staff on site tried to put the fire out but they were unsuccessful.

Officials thank all the Fire Departments, Rescue Squads, Sanford Ambulance, and the Salvation Army who responded to the fire.
