Legalized Marijuana
The fast-approaching date for the legalization of marijuana in the state has municipalities scrambling to clarify regulations on public consumption. It’s illegal to smoke cigarettes, consume alcohol, or vape in many public spaces.
Duluth, and other cities, could pass tighter regulations that will add cannabis to that list. Using marijuana in public has always been illegal, as it has been in private. As of August 1st, that will no longer be true. Hoping to avoid potential problems with people smoking pot at medical facilities or on playgrounds or other places children are present, Duluth plans to ban smoking marijuana under the Clean Air Act. The proposed ordinance will come up for a vote on August 14. If it passes, it could go into effect by the end of that month.
