Mahnomen-Waubun keeping “Thunderbirds” nickname

The Mahnomen-Waubun School Districts received some good news earlier this week as they will be allowed to continue using their “Thunderbird” nickname. Waubun-Ogema-White Earth Superintendent explains why they will not have to change it. 

Spaeth says he is happy with the results of the petition and is relieved that it is finally over. 

Spaeth ended by taking some time to thank everyone for the support they gave during the petitioning. 

Mahnomen-Waubun wasn’t the only school that will keep their Native American nickname as Warroad also get to keep their “Warriors” nickname and Native American logo.
